Call for Applications for Hungarian-Canadians at English Summer Camps in Hungary

The summer camps, managed by KalandAdventure Hungarian-Canadian Association, for Hungarian children between the ages of 8 and 17 have been operating successfully for several years in Hungary with the participation of young Canadian volunteers.

In accordance with the mission of our Association, we have developed our own educational program and an English summer camp in Hungary. Our Association has a two-fold objective. On the one hand, we strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for the kids from Hungary and other countries, where they are introduced to the use of everyday English that seamlessly complements and enhances their language studies at school. On the other hand, we aim to invite young Canadians with Hungarian heritage (second-, or third-generation Hungarian-Canadians) as volunteers to lead and organize a variety of activities and programs at our summer camps. This opportunity makes it possible that young Hungarian-Canadians can immerse themselves into their heritage and Hungarian culture. Our volunteers are all young adults with Hungarian or European background. Before or after their duty at the summer camps, they can explore the land of their heritage, travel around in Hungary and Europe and visit their relatives; in a nutshell, they spend a fantastic summer in Europe.

Besides the summer camps for kids, intensive English camps for young adults will also be offered in the summer of 2018. The adult intensive English camps will focus on the development of communicative skills of young adults and professionals in a stress-free and welcoming environment.

Thanks to our sponsors, this year we have the opportunity to support our volunteers by contributing to the cost of their airfare in addition to providing full board and accommodation at the camps and some other small benefits.

The financial support for our volunteers may be granted through an application process. Interested individuals should submit their application to our Association by email latest by March 15, 2018. The applications will be evaluated in the order of their receipt. The available financial assistance is maximum $800 per person. The total amount of the available funds is $6400.

All young individuals between the ages of 19 and 28 are encouraged to apply who are willing to volunteer for children between 8 and 17 years of age and who are keen on working with young adults (age of 18+). Knowledge of the Hungarian language is not required; however, excellent communication skills in English are an asset.
