ReConnect Hungary – 2016

ReConnect Hungary provides the gift of a peer-group heritage and cultural immersion trip to Hungary for Hungarian-American young adults, between the ages of 18 and 28, who want to strengthen their Hungarian identity by connecting to the country, its culture and heritage. During this two-week journey, they learn about their Hungarian roots—culture, traditions and history. They experience current-day Hungary as they connect with young locals. With unmatched access to decision-makers and industry leaders, they will gain valuable insight into the trends, innovations and ingenuity driving the country’s economy today.

Requirements:

  • be of Hungarian heritage
  • be between the ages of 18-28
  • be a US or Canadian citizen
  • participants must not have lived in Hungary past the age of 12

Date of the journey: 12-28. June 2016.

Summer University of Debrecen

The Council of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Debrecen has been organizing its summer courses for almost 90 years. Their purpose was to popularize Hungarian as the language of a “small” nation in the world inside and outside the Hungarian borders. You can choose from plenty of different courses, e.g: 2-4-week Hungarian Language and Culture Courses, Thematic Courses or Intenziv Foundation Course, if you want to study for a whole school year period.

Thematic Courses in 2016:

  • Professional Experiences for North American Pharmacy Students. 26 June – 30 July, 2016
  • Modern Hungary: Hungarian History and Culture int he 19th-20th Century. 17-30 July, 2016

Hungarian Language and Culture Summer Courses in 2016:

  • 17-30 July, 2016
  • 17 July – 13 August, 2016
  • 31 July – 13 August, 2016

The minimum age for enrolment in a course at Debrecen Summer School is 18, but with the parents’ written statement of taking full responsibility, the Summer School can accept applications from 16 years of age. Children above the age of 10 can also take part in the course if a parent or relative accompanies them after the classes.

Debreceni Egyetem Hallgatói Önkormányzata [Student Union of the University of Debrecen] mainly supports students from overseas wishing to attend the summer courses. Please contact the program coordinator at debrecen@nyariegyetem.hu.

Diaspora Discount: 50% discount on the tuition fee for those persons who receive a letter of recommendation from an organization of the relevant Hungarian community.

Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) organizes the 22nd Summer University Program for Hungarian language and culture

The professional background of the program is guaranteed by the Department of Hungarian as a Foreign Language, which is the methodological center for teaching Hungarian as a foreign language. The program consists of three main blocks: Intensive Hungarian language course, Lectures on Hungarian culture, arts, and history, Cultural programs.

Program dates: 1 August – 26 August, 2016

Application deadline: 15 July 2016 (For reduced fee apply by 30 April 2016 or use the Christmas voucher by 31 January.)

Full tuition fee: 580 EUR
